ARGYLE LAKE - Bluegill: fair-good but small on wax worms or nightcrawler pieces Crappie: slow on minnows Channel catfish: good on dip baits and nightcrawlers Largemouth bass: fair on plastics and spinnerbaits Redear: fair on wax worms
CARLYLE LAKE - Bluegill: good using wax worms & meal worms Crappie: excellent using minnows more than tube jigs. In the coves around 16" deep. In the lake around 3 to 4 feet deep. Channel catfish: good using night crawlers, crickets, minnows & shad gut. Starting to move into the banks for spawning. Largemouth bass: good using spinners & crank around the Peppenhorst Branch Walleye/Saugeye: fair using minnows, curly-tail jigs & spinners being caught in the spillway White Bass: good using Panther Martin spinners, rooster tails & curly tail jigs
FOX CHAIN OF LAKES - Channel catfish: good using leeches by boat at the south end of lake Catherine and averaging 3 pounds Crappie: crappie are spotty by boat fishing at the North river and averaging 10-12 inches in length. Northern Pike: fair using spinner baits by boat and averaging 28-30 inches Walleye: fair using small jigs by boat and are averaging 19 inches in length
MATTOONLAKE -Bluegill: Excellent; wax worms are producing in the shallower water off rocks Largemouth bass: Good; Early morning hours best; tournament fishermen are catching the limits Crappie: Fair; Cast jigs and minnows in deeper water, approximately 8 to 10 feet near brush or structure Catfish: Fair to Good; Fish are close to the spawn; liver, stink bait, shad, shrimp and cheese bait will get a bite anywhere - deep, shallow, or drifting
REND LAKE - Crappie: good using minnows & anything chartreuse color around the rocks spawning Largemouth Bass: Fair SHELBYVILLE LAKE - Crappie: Good; An angler reported catching 17 fish near the shorelines; 11 still had solid eggs. Fish the shallows around 4 to 6 feet deep - less than 8 feet deep Bluegill: Good; Place wax worms under a bobber on the bottom of shallower water Largemouth bass: Good; Head up the creeks, fish the back of the coves, pockets, and small points; Cast rattle traps and white spinner baits into the coves White Bass: Good; Shad and twister tails are getting bites in shallow water off the flats. FISH:. Catfish ... Good; Fish are very active and several are being taken with crappie jigs
SPRINGFIELD LAKE - Bluegill: fair to good using wax worms & crickets Crappie: spotty to fair using jig/minnows around deeper brush early Catfish: fair to good using crawlers, dip baits & drifted shad out from creeks Largemouth bass: fair to good using plastics, topwater & crankbaits around timber or rocks Walleye: spotty White bass: fair to good using jigs & small crankbaits off flats and near bridge early or late
