LAKE EUFALA - The current lake elevation is 185.06. The surface temperature is running around 80 degrees. The water on the main lake and in the creeks is clear to slightly stained. With the unseasonably warm weather we have had over the last few weeks, most of the fish have not made a major move and are still being caught on shallow ledges in 10-12 feet of water. Your efforts should be concentrated around the mouths of creeks and ditches as the shad are starting to bunch up in these areas, and the fish will not be far from them. When the water temperature cools down into the 60's, you will need to really pay attention to shad movements, as this will dictate where you need to fish and it can change daily. Shad-colored medium diving crankbaits such as a Stanford Cedar Shad will be a good choice for the next several weeks. If the crankbait bite is slow, a Texas rig, Carolina rig or jig fished slowly in any available cover around the shad is productive. Another option that will really pick up over the next several weeks is to fish up the river in the River Bend area. Texas rigs and jigs around blowdows and stumps will produce some nice fish. Top water baits can also be very good especially early in the day or on overcast days. Just remember that this is a time of the year when the fish start moving around more, and you may have to cover more water than was necessary over the past several weeks.
HARTWELL LAKE - Bass fishing has been good this past week. The lower end of the Lake near Hartwell, Georgia saw some pretty intense weather last week. The top water bite was very active during the feeding times and spinner baits along with Jerk Baits were used once again as good productive follow up baits. This angler finished off the day with his Carolina rigged lizard. The bass seem to be holding to the same pattern for three weeks now, but expect docks and heavy cover to start holding a few more bass. Take along those Chug Bugs, X-Raps and Carolina Rigs once again this week.
SINCLAIR LAKE - Bass fishing is fair and the anglers catching fish are using crank the banks that hold rock and wood as well as the flats. Bass are mostly in transition from spring to summer patterns. Some fish are still feeding shallow while others have already moved to deeper water. Top water lures and spinner baits continue to catch a few fish shallow, mainly during early morning and late afternoon. Pop R’s, Chug Bug’s, and other similar baits are producing around shallow cover such as blow downs, docks, rip rap, grass, seawalls, points, and stumps. Weightless green trick worms have also caught fish on a couple recent mornings. Docks and boat houses are holding fish that are hitting soft plastics mostly, with a few hitting crank baits. Best baits seem to be the jointed Shad Rap in the fire tiger and natural shad color. Use the fire tiger only in the stained water. Jigs will work but use the lighter ¼ ounce size for best results just flip and skip the docks. The larger jigs get caught up in the grass and the bass just aren't hitting them as well. Color choices for the plastics will be the white, pink and yellow colors. The lighter watermelon green colors are working and try to stay with the lightest shade possible. Top water baits like the Pop R and the 115 Sammy as well as the Chug Bug are producing early in the morning hours while working the coves and smaller deeper creeks. The water is a little stained up in the rivers but this is typical for summer on the lake. Take along a variety of baits for the trip. Work the points and flats, especially those that are holding grass with Shad Raps and Husky Jerks. The Pointer 78 shad suspending jerk bait is a really good summer bait as it suspends on the stop. Crank it, jerk it or use a very slow stop and go and the fish should get on the bait. The bigger bass are now relating to the grassy areas and are holding tight. Try fishing the trick worm fast on the surface with a fast jerky motion and Zoom baby bass Super Flukes are working too. The best bait overall is the 6 inch u tail natural blue Zoom worm with little or no weight. Toss this bait right on top of the grass and swim it into the holes. Crappie are under the docks early and late and at night. Live minnows at night at 4 feet are best with the day depths only another foot deeper.
LAKE WEISS - Crappie fishing is starting to pickup with the cool nights we have had and the rain we got has cooled the water down. I am starting to pickup good stringers of crappie out spider rigging the river channel ledges in 8 to 12 feet of water - using live bait. It is still a little slow but it will get right here in the next few weeks as the water cools off even more. I have mainly been fishing Yellow Creek, Sand Valley and Bay Spring area's and doing pretty good. Also still catching some good crappie shooting some of the deeper docks located on the river channel using a 1/24 oz lead head with a Southern Pro Stinger in Popsicle/Chartreuse color. Catching some big crappie on some of the standing timber that is showing with a drop shot rig with live bait - the timber is not holding good numbers but holding good quality crappie. Fishing will only get better over the next few weeks as we move more into fall fishing conditions. Report By: Kelly at www.weisslakeguides.com
WEST POINT LAKE - Bass fishing is good and the up lake fish are biting a clear jerk bait. Follow it up with a 5' Senko in Green Pumpkin. Fish the main lake points near shallow water. Shad are still spawning on the rocks. Down lake the Shakey head bite is still strong. Key Lime Pie and Bama Bug have been the top producers. Fish in 10 to 25 feet with 8 pound fluorocarbon.
Linesides fishing is good and top water baits around glass bridge area. Fish up to 8 pounds are being caught. If the topwater bite die's go to a 1/2ounce bucktail. Shad still are working being down lined in 15 to 20 feet deep. The hybrids are schooling 45 minutes before dark so be ready with a Pop’n cork.
Crappie fishing is good and the night time bite is really started to heat up. Fish under the Yellow Jacket Bridge with minnows about 8 feet down. Trolling jigs in 10 to 15 feet are still working. Try black and chartreuse jig in 1/16 ounce sizes.
